Celebrating Competition Season
Dance competitions are about so much more than wins and losses. Whether under the lights performing your heart out, or waiting nervously in the wings to hear your name or number called, they teach us so much about ourselves as dancers and as people. If you have the courage to compete and leave your heart and soul on the stage every time no matter the outcome, you will be successful wherever you go in life.
Competition also teaches camaraderie and offers a special motivation to consistently improve week after week, year after year. Yes, you are at a dance competition to compete against other dancers, but any successful dance event will provide a great opportunity to take home valuable tools, tips for techniques and new choreography, and form valuable connections and friendships that can last a lifetime.
Competition is YOUR opportunity to grow! You’ve heard the saying “it’s not just dance, it’s a lifestyle” – dancers spend their lives in studios and day to day, can often become too comfortable in their classes among their peers and friends. A good studio owner and teacher will recognize this and also encourage you to embrace new experiences, genres and techniques.
